I’m finally off crutches but still in the recovery stage having started physiotherapy yesterday. I started my new job last week (I got it) and have an exam next week that I’m totally not ready for. Really. I probably say that a lot, but I just have no motivation this time. I’m exhausted with my new schedule which doesn’t help and end up wanting to crawl into bed after dinner.

I’ve always loved the concept behind TOM’S one for one.  Each pair of shoes that’s bought = a pair of new shoes for a child in need. Needless to say, I’ve always wanted to support this cause but I really didn’t care for the looks of  the canvas footwear. I saw someone wearing a pair in white and it looked like he had mummified feet!

The ones I got are different. They’re SILVER (I gravitate towards grey clothing and silver shoes) & sparkly with sequins! It sure isn’t just another pair of canvas flats! What a nice way to start off the holiday season. Plus, I’m pretty much confined to flat shoes for the next little bit….

Buy them at TOM’s for more styles or get them on sale at Little Burgundy

I’m not a fan of skincare. I’m not a morning person. I simply can’t be bothered to do more than wash my face. However, it’s time that I start taking care of my skin.

I’m also a product junkie & I’ve pretty much never finished any product in the past (I know it’s wasteful so I’ve changed my habits since, which is working great btw)!

However, the below list are products that I’ve *gasp* finished and either repurchased or will repurchase. That’s a huge deal for me!

My skin: Combination with a tendency to be on the oily side, especially in the summer. Mild rosacea on cheeks.

Step 1: Remove makeup

Fancl Mild Cleansing oil $26

Removes makeup efficiently & despite being oil, it has never broken me out.

Vichy Purete Thermale 3 in 1 cleanser $19.50

Great for those lazy late nights when I’m tempted to just go to bed without removing my makeup. I don’t even use water after this, as I find it moisturizing. It’s also good as an eye makeup remover.

Step 2: Cleanse

Kanebo Naive Facial Cleansing Foam $4.90

I love Japanese drugstore facewash. Smooth, foamy & moisturizing. You only need a small pea sized and get lots of foam. It also smells great and is super inexpensive.

Step 3: Toner

Shiseido ‘The Skincare” Hydro-balancing Softener $35

I don’t have a favourite yet to be honest. This is a nice one but too expensive! I don’t want to spend too much since toner is supposedly “not really necessary”.  I’m still on the hunt for a good one. Any recommendations?

Step 4: Moisturize

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate Serum $48

I did not ever think of needing a serum or liking one as my face is combination-oily. I tried a sample of this at the recommendation of the Kiehl’s sales associate and was hooked once I tried it! It makes you glow & calms your skin. The scent is soothing as well. I don’t use it daily, only a few times a week at night.

Avon Botanisource Comforting Cream $9

I just found out this is discontinued! Noooooooo! I repurchased this 4 times and have one more backup left. It’s like a gel-cream but more on the cream side. I could instantly feel my skin soaking it in and plumping up. It was cheap too at $9 or so.

I prefer gel-cream moisturizers and this was the best for me, hands down. Other ones I tried: Clinique MoistureSurge, Biotherm Aquasource, a Vichy one..Oligo25? etc. They weren’t bad, but I like the Avon one best.

Am currently working on a jar of Shu Uemura depsea moisture cream that’s similar in texture. No verdict yet.

I guess the search continues!

Step 5: Lipbalm

Rosebud Perfume Co. lipbalm $6-$9

I also never finish lipbalm, even a small tube…yet I finished an entire jar of this stuff! I know people say it’s just overpriced, flavoured Vaseline but I will continue to repurchase. Mint Rose might be my fave, but I have an unopened Original Rosebud Salve I have yet to try.

Optional step: Spot treatment

Jurlique Calendua Cream $35

This is really thick, so I only put it on pimples, red areas & a little bit on the rosacea on my cheeks. I use this more in the wintertime and found that it does help calm my skin down.

I don’t have a favourite scrub/exfoliator or eye cream yet, so will not be posting those until I find a good one.

Last time I featured pumps that were more demure, classic & girly. I’ve always preferred the edgier looks on girls (jackest, jackets, jackets). Here are a few that I like:

1. Junya Watanabe Commes des Garcons leopard sleeve dress $770

The right sleeve looks like a furry mess, but the asymmetrical cut & simpleness of the dress (minus the sleeves) gives an effortless vibe. Besides, what’s a cooler combination than black & leopard?

2. All Saints Nirvana Nada Dress $270

Reminds me a lot of the Christopher Kane prints, plus Tulip skirts are my favourite.

3.BCBG Max Azria Caden Lace-Top Handkerchief Dress $418

Who says that there aren’t any edgy evening-wear options? The cropped lace top along with the ombre-starry print is so pretty!

4. Wilfred ‘Sabine’ Dress $165

This may look plain jane, but I really like it. The colour, the pockets & the collar. I love all things ‘Wilfred’!

5. Forever 21 Denim & Chiffon dress $29.80

This is not entirely my style, but it is spot-on in terms of trend factor: the long length, sheer skirt & denim vest.

Besides eating turkey with gravy for dinner and the turkey & apple sandwich for lunch, I’ve also been using the leftover turkey to make an appetizer/snack.

*this is just a picture of chicken pate crostini..I couldn’t find an exact picture online and did not take a picture when I made this.

I didn’t follow any set recipe, but here is a handy one from The New York Times (just because I wouldn’t be able to give you exact measurements!):

Smoked Turkey Pate

Adapted from the Greenberg family

Time: 5 minutes

1 pound smoked turkey

1 cup mayonnaise

Salt, optional

Pepper, optional

1 jalapeño, halved lengthwise, seeded and thinly sliced

Corn chips, like Fritos, or sturdy potato chips, for serving.

Finely grind the turkey in a food processor. Transfer to a serving bowl, stir in mayonnaise and season to taste with salt and pepper, if using. Top with jalapeño slices and serve as a dip with chips.

Yield: 6 to 8 appetizer servings.

2gsquared2’s simple version:

I personally made a much simpler version by simply grinding the leftover turkey in a magic bullet. Simply stirred in mayonnaise & added fresh ground pepper to taste. (Optional: You may even add finely diced celery and mix in. It gives the turkey a fresh flavour & adds some texture to the smooth pate).

Monday’s Thanksgiving dinner left me with A LOT of leftover turkey. I’ve been eating turkey for 2/3 meals a day :o.

To keep myself from being bored, I’ve been trying to make a variety of simple meals incorporating turkey. Simple is key since I”m still hopping on one foot.

Just like all sandwiches, you can substitute ingredients all you want. I’ve been using whatever is found in my fridge which means Royal Gala apples &  marbled cheese. Brie cheese would be an excellent choice as well!

Turkey, Cheddar & Green Apple Sandwich

  • 2 teaspoons grainy mustard
  • 2 slices whole-grain bread, toasted
  • 2 teaspoons mayonnaise
  • 4 thin slices cooked white-meat turkey
  • 1 ounce thinly sliced extra-sharp cheddar cheese
  • 4 thin slices green apple
  • 2 pieces red-leaf lettuce

  1. Spread mustard on 1 slice of bread and mayonnaise on the other slice. Layer the remaining ingredients on mustard, and top with second slice of bread. Cut in half, and serve immediately.

I’m a shoe girl at heart. I thought it was bags at first but it’s too annoying to have to change purses all the time..so why bother?

I literally can’t walk in these now with my fractured knee. Even if  I was 100% healed, it’s probably still a challenge to wear some of these.

1. Christian Louboutin Big Dorcet. $995 USD

I would never spend $1k on shoes because I would just ruin them immediately. These look painful (5 inches with 0.5 inch concealed platform) but I love the almond toe and the juxtaposition of the thick, comfy elastic straps with the needle thin stiletto heels.

2. Miu Miu Glitter & Calf hair pump $650

A classic shape with texturally interesting materials. A safer & more wearable option than the crazy glitter & suede boots Miu Miu also came out with this year. One of my fave pairs of shoe this season!

3. Red Valentino bow front metallic leather pumps $350

I’m not a girlygirl…but I do like bows & d’orsay & metallic. This shade of pink is pretty and the kitten heels make it wearable.

4. Giuseppe Zanotti Dirty two-tone snake-effect leather pumps $595

Can you see a pattern? I love classic shapes with crazy textures/colours. The electric blue here really pops.

5. Valentino Bow-embellished patent-leather pumps $745

I am finally liking the colour pink! Blush has made this happen. The extravagant bow keeps it from being too prissy.

I’m always afraid of disclosing certain things for the fear that it’ll “jinx” me. I don’t even know who started saying that.

I had accepted to go in for an interview that was arranged quite last minute. So how do you take time off so last minute? A sick day. Like,’duh’ right? Despite the fact I was feeling perfectly fine. Of course, I had to get injured right before my interview so I wouldn’t be lying*sarcasm*. What I thought was a little twist & pull turned into a small fracture. Still, the bone is broken nonetheless & I won’t be able to go into work. Waiting to see if I can borrow some crutches from someone since I no longer have a group plan 😦 $75 knee immobilizer + $70 meds + $50 crutches! I only used the basic dental & eye when I had a group plan.

Well, the good news is that I’m another step closer to a potential offer. Which is another dilemma in itself. I’ll save the headache for another time!

Since it IS Thanksgiving today, I have to say I’m definitely thankful for the restful weekend I’ve had. A cast would’ve been worse. I spent the weekend mostly at home and watching A LOT of tv/movies which was nice since I don’t watch tv a lot. The Proposal, 13 going on 30 was on for movies. Flashpoint, The Office, SNL, Storage Wars (Yeeeeeep!) & Amazing Race…phew, that’s a lot of tv we watched.

Family is coming over for dinner later…Happy Turkey Day 🙂

I initially started this blog (since I abandoned my previous one), hoping for it to be somewhere where I can post more personally, in addition to the more superficial-but pretty things I use to blog about.

This time, I’m aiming for more of having an actual online diary for me to reflect and review on how I have and will evolve  as a person in work, life, taste (as in food) & style 😀 Memorable moments of travel & food will be documented. No specific theme tailored to others….if I feel lazy, I may post pictures of stuff or I may not post at all!

Ahh, freedom…

It seems strange, but this very picture is the summary of me & the blogging world as a reader and writer. I LOVE this pic that Tommy Ton took! This very picture has both enabled & controlled my spending from a personal finance view. I’m lusting & wanting to spend on the BV but also trying to control my spending habits to buy one. How ironic! I guess this blog is going to involve a lot of this..finding the balance between saving & spending.
